Tenae Stover is a native Washingtonian, who, for the past three years, has been preparing food for an American Airlines catering subcontractor at Reagan National Airport. Recognizing the importance of standing up and fighting back against corporate greed, Tenae is a key leader in the national effort to demand that One Job Should Be Enough for airline catering workers. In June, thousands of airline catering workers at over 30 hub airports voted to authorize a strike when released – including at National Airport, where Tenae and her coworkers voted unanimously (100%!) in favor of striking when it becomes lawful to do so.
Two years ago, I was evicted from my home because I wasn’t making enough to afford rent. I’m still struggling to afford my bills earning just $13 an hour. We prepare the meals and drinks for American Airlines flights out of National Airport, and even though we work for a subcontractor, none of us should be facing homelessness when American is earning billions in profits. As the airline industry continues to earn record profits, catering workers like me should not continue to be forgotten. That’s why in June, my coworkers and I sent a clear message to our employer and American by voting 100% to strike when released. We’re ready to do whatever it takes within the law to win the wages and health care we deserve.”
