Beginning with Local 5 Hawaii, Senator Mazie Hirono was on national news talking about our strike!
CNN viewers heard our message, “One Job Should Be Enough.”
Senator @maziehirono spoke to @CNN today about our #MarriottStrike! "There are 7,000 hotel workers that are striking @Marriott hotels… their position is that #1job should be enough." She supported us on the picket lines 2 weeks ago. pic.twitter.com/pYurLAkmFX

In another exciting update from San Francisco, the AfroTech conference will be respecting the picket lines. Read this excerpt from the letter Morgan DeBraun, the founder and CEO of Blavity Inc., sent Marriott executives.
The conference is just days away, and this decision will cost my small business hundreds of thousands of dollars. I have made this decision because I am deeply troubled with the lack of action on Marriott’s behalf to better understand and respect the basic demands presented by their core staff. Many of those protesting or affected by the protest are Black and Brown people who, despite their grueling and labor-intensive duties, are forced to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. Your workers could very well be my employees’ own mothers, cousins, uncles, and brothers.
Local 30 celebrated 31 days on strike!

In San Jose Local 19, Father Pedigo, a Catholic Priest from Silicon Valley, was a part of a delegation of leaders who went to Marriott and refused to let them ignore our demands.
Today, Father @Pedigo was joined by community leaders in a delegation to San Jose Marriott management in support of the strikers and to share that the community agrees that one job should be enough. #MarriotStrike #1job pic.twitter.com/tik6fppueP

Marriott hotel security (at a non-union hotel in Virginia) confiscated table materials at the Ignatian Family Teach-In, a religious conference that brings together Catholic Jesuit students from all over the country. Supportive Ignatians fought to free the materials and won. The students didn’t stop their ardent support of our strike! But what does it say that Marriott took it in the first place? They’re scared and we’re winning. Here’s a photo of the before and after of the table.
And finally, the Wall Street Journal reported that Marriott fell short of revenue expectations in the U.S. An analyst for Sanford C. Bernstein, David J. Beckel noted:
Marriott’s comments will fuel speculation that the weakness is mostly related to its ongoing hotel workers strike or that competitors are “underplaying an observed weakness in trends.”
We fight for what’s right! Support the Marriott Strike!
